How zakat on gold is calculated
Zakat on gold is generally 2.5% of the market value of qualifying gold a person has held for one lunar year, provided their wealth exceeds the nisab threshold. Set the buyer payout to 100% above to value your gold at full market value, then apply 2.5%.
Nisab
The gold nisab is traditionally 85 grams of pure gold (about 7.5 tola / 20 mithqal). If the total value of your zakatable wealth is at or above the cash value of that nisab, zakat becomes due. Many scholars allow valuing mixed assets against either the gold or silver nisab — consult a qualified scholar for your situation.
Worked example
For 100 g of 22K gold at a spot of roughly $60/g (24K): the pure content is about 91.7 g, valued near $5,500, so zakat at 2.5% would be approximately $137. Your figure will differ with the live price and your currency.
